Some of the character concepts from the United States Garbage Pail Kids All-New Series 7 were similar to character concepts from other non-sports sets and previous Garbage Pail Kids series.  Some of the similarities may have been coincidental, but there also were some that appeared to be intentional.  There were concepts used in the All-New Series 7 that followed similar themes as other non-sports sets and previous Garbage Pail Kids series.  This section provides descriptions of the similarities between these All-New Series 7 characters and other non-sports sets and previous Garbage Pail Kids series.  While it may be a stretch to see some of the similarities, this section also provides an opportunity to view more of the artwork from the All-New Series 7, previous Garbage Pail Kids series, and some of the other non-sports sets.

There are a couple non-sports sets referred to in this section: The Sloppy Slobs and Chile Basuritas (1999).  The Sloppy Slobs were produced by Merlin Publishing Limited back in 1993.  The Chile Basuritas referred to in this section were produced by Salo back in 1999.  Any of the All-New Series Garbage Pail Kids characters that are similar to The Sloppy Slobs characters or Chile Basuritas characters are only similar by coincidence.  Merlin Publishing Limited was purchased by Topps in 1995 and eventually became Topps Europe Limited.

The United States Garbage Pail Kids All-New Series 7 character 3a Offense Spence / 3b Rebound Roy is very similar to the United States Garbage Pail Kids Series 4 character 154a Basket Casey / 154b Dribblin' Derek.  The characters for both of the concepts are using their heads as basketballs.  The All-New Series 7 character follows a similar theme as the All-New Series 5 character 11a Slam-Dunk Dylan / 11b Jumpshot Josh.  Both of the characters are basketball players slam dunking basketballs.  Brent Engstrom was the artist who painted the All-New Series 7 character, Tom Bunk was the artist who painted the Series 4 character, and Luis Diaz was the artist who painted the All-New Series 5 character.

The United States Garbage Pail Kids All-New Series 7 character 20a Peter Puker / 20b Web Head Ned is slightly similar to the United States Garbage Pail Kids All-New Series 2 character 19a Spider Manny / 19b Webby Wesley.  Both of characters are the superhero Spider-Man.  Brent Engstrom was the artist who painted the All-New Series 7 character, and John Pound was the artist who painted the All-New Series 2 character.

The United States Garbage Pail Kids All-New Series 7 character 25a Britney Shears / 25b Claire Cut is very similar to the United States Garbage Pail Kids Series 9 character 369a Scalped Ralph / 369b Bone-Head Fred.  Both of characters are having grooves carved into their heads with electric shavers.  Brent Engstrom was the artist who painted the All-New Series 7 character, and John Pound was the artist who painted the Series 9 character.

The United States Garbage Pail Kids All-New Series 7 character 29a Eye Scream Lee / 29b Scooped Shannon has a very similar theme as the United States Garbage Pail Kids Series 13 character 504a Cooper Scooper / 504b Jess Desserts.  Both concepts have eyeballs being placed on top of ice cream cones.  John Pound was the artist who painted the All-New Series 7 character, and James Warhola was the artist who painted the Series 13 character.

Just like the previous All-New Series, Topps created a promo kit for the release.  The All-New Series 7 promo kits were given out to the hobby distributors and retail distributors.

At the end of August of 2007, Jeff Zapata, the Garbage Pail Kids series editor, e-mailed me an Adobe PDF version of the 2-page foldout for the All-New Series 7 (see file above).  This allowed me to quickly share the information about the All-New Series 7 with everyone.  Many of the details from the PDF version of the 2-page foldout are described below.

The 2-page foldout had the character Ty Dee Knot on the front cover.  The phrases "Mega Packs" and "Double The Fun!" were printed on the front cover to show that the packs from the All-New Series 7 came with 10 cards instead of 5 cards.

The inside of the foldout had the characters Bigtop Tony, Dough Boyd, Sports Shoe Stu, Snotty Sarah, Twisted Tammy, and Warrior Warren.  In the center of the inside of the foldout, there was an enlargment of Ty Dee Knot's face along with the phrase "A Match Made In Heaven!" printed just above it.  The phrase "More Laughs, More Grossness, More Stickers Than Previous Releases!!!" was printed just below the face.  The center area also has the phrases "Mega Packs" and "Now 10 Stickers Per Pack!" printed in it.

On the left page of the inside of the foldout, there were phrases about how well the Garbage Pail Kids brand has been doing ("THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT!", "·GPK continues to draw a new generation of fans.  Kids and adults love em'", ·Evergreen property with over 23 card series produced.  Extended shelf-life.", "·A large Internet fan base with many sites devoted soley to GPK", and "·On-line ads and print ads in kids & collector magazines").  The word solely was incorrectly spelled as "soley" on the PDF version of the foldout.

On the right page of the inside of the foldout, there were phrases about the release ("ALL-NEW SUPER-SIZE SERIES", "·110 All-New Gross-Out Stickers", "·Awesome Card Backs - GPK Wanted Posters & Gross ID's", "PLUS! A SLEW OF FANTASTIC INSERTS!", "Pop-Up Cards: Fun, fold-out standees", "Puzzle Cards: Cute jigsaw cards of famous GPKs", "Action Punch Outs: Put-it-together interactive cards", and "Loco Motion Cards: Tilt the card to see a GPK in action").

On the back of the foldout, there were phrases about the packaging and ship date ("EYE-CATCHING DAY-GLO PACKAGING" and "SHIPPING NOVEMBER '07").  In the center of the back of the foldout, there were sample images of what the All-New Series 7 box and pack design looked like.

At the beginning of October of 2007, John Williams, the supervising editor at Topps, sent me the different promotional kits for the All-New Series 7.  As with the previous All-New Series, there was a hobby promotional kit and a retail promotional kit.  The images above show the various items included in the promotional kits.

The hobby promotional kit consisted of: the 2-page foldout, Topps Wholesale Hobby Distributors letter, Hobby specification sheet, and preliminary checklist.

The retail promotional kit consisted of: the 2-page foldout, Topps Retail letter, Retail specification sheet, Category Manager specification sheet, Category Manager - E specification sheet, Bonus Box - WAL specification sheet, Value Box - EA specification sheet, Value Box - VIN specification sheet, Blister Pack specification sheet, Gravity Feed specification sheet, dealer ad, and preliminary checklist.

The items in the promotional kits were customized for the businesses they were mailed to, and not every business received the same combination of items.

The Topps Wholesale Hobby Distributors letter and the Topps Retail letter are nearly identical.  Other than who the letters were addressed to and the dates on the letters, everything else is the same.  The Topps Wholesale Hobby Distributors letter was dated September 12, 2007.  The Retail letter was dated September 13, 2007.  The letters helped promote the All-New Series 7 by describing some of the highlights from the release: larger packs, more items to collect, a 110 card set, pop-up cards, puzzle cards, action punch out cards, loco motion cards, wanted poster card backs, and gross ID card backs.

The scheduled delivery date for the Topps Wholesale Hobby Distributors items was the week of December 10, 2007.  The scheduled delivery date for the Topps Retail items was the week of December 17, 2007.

The Hobby specification sheet (relating to the hobby boxes), Retail specification sheet (relating to the specialty outlet boxes), Category Manager specification sheet (relating to the priced retail boxes), and Category Manager - E specification sheet (relating to the unpriced retail boxes) describe the four types of regular boxes available for the All-New Series 7.  The retail boxes are ordered in very large volumes, which is why the retailers pay a slightly lower cost per pack.  The Category Manager specification sheet mistakenly has "Twenty (24) packs per box" instead of "Twenty-four (24) packs per box" printed on it.  The Category Manager E specification sheet mistakenly has "Twenty-six (24) packs per box" instead of "Twenty-four (24) packs per box" printed on it.
  • Hobby boxes: $1.30 per pack, $2.00 suggested per pack sales price, 8 boxes per case,
#757-077H case code, 041116577574 box bar code, and 041116477577 pack bar code.

  • Specialty outlet boxes: $1.30 per pack, $1.99 suggested per pack sales price, 16 boxes
per case, #757-077 case code, 041116777578 box bar code, and 041116477577 pack
bar code (same as the hobby boxes).

  • Priced retail boxes: $1.00 per pack, $1.99 suggested per pack sales price, 16 boxes per
case, #758-077 case code, 041116677588 box bar code, and 041116577581 pack bar code.

  • Unpriced retail boxes: $1.00 per pack, $1.99 suggested per pack sales price, 16 boxes
per case, #758-077E case code, 041116977589 box bar code, and 041116877582 pack
     bar code.

The Bonus Box - WAL specification sheet (relating to the bonus boxes for Wal-Mart, K B Toys, and Meijer stores - #939-077WA case code - 041116579394 bonus box bar code), Value Box - EA specification sheet (relating to the bonus boxes for Target and Shopko stores - #939-077EA case code - 041116679391 bonus box bar code), and Value Box - VIN specification sheet (relating to the bonus boxes for K-Mart and Toys R Us - #939-077VI case code - 041116879395 bonus box bar code) describe the three types of bonus boxes for the All-New Series 7.  There is no mention of the bonus cards on the specification sheets even though the bonus boxes contain bonus cards.
  • Bonus boxes: $5.00 per bonus box, $9.99 suggested per bonus box sales price, 6 packs
and 1 bonus card per bonus box, 16 bonus boxes per case, and 041116479397 pack
     bar code.

The Blister Pack specification sheet describes the blister packs for the All-New Series 7.  The specification sheet does not describe the blister pack contents correctly.  The specification sheet has "Each blister pack contains ten (10) Garbage Pail Kids stickers" instead of something along the lines of "Each pack from a blister pack contains ten (10) Garbage Pail Kids stickers" for the description.
  • Blister packs: $2.00 per blister pack, $3.99 suggested per blister pack price, 2 packs
and 1 bonus card per blister pack, 20 blister packs per blister pack box, 8 blister pack
boxes per case, #759-077E case code, 041116477591 blister pack box bar code,
041116377594 blister pack bar code, and 041116877582 pack bar code (same as
     the unpriced retail boxes).

The Gravity Feed specification sheet describes the gravity feeds for the All-New Series 7.
  • Gravity feeds: $1.00 per pack, $1.99 suggested per pack sales price, 48 packs per gravity
feed, 1 gravity feed per packer carton, 6 packer cartons per case, #741-077 case code,
041116277412 packer carton bar code, and 041116477577 pack bar code (same as
     the hobby boxes).

The preliminary checklist for the All-New Series 7 only provided the names / titles for the pop-ups and puzzles.  The listings for the base cards, loco motion cards, and action punch out cards is TBD (to be determined).  The preliminary checklist shows there are 55 "a" base cards, 55 "b" base cards, 10 pop-up cards, 10 puzzle cards, 5 loco motion cards, and 10 action punch out cards.

The print version of the 2-page foldout was nearly identical to the PDF version of the 2-page foldout.  The majority of the changes for the print version were on the back of the 2-page foldout: the picture of the box was enlarged, the text "SHIPPING NOVEMBER '07" was excluded, the text "EYE-CATCHING DAY-GLO PACKAGING" was tilted, and the picture of the sample pack was moved up to show the text near the bottom of the pack.  On the left page of the inside of the foldout, Topps had corrected the spelling error for the word solely.  I had mentioned the spelling error to Jeff Zapata when I had received the PDF version of the foldout, and he made the correction for the print version.

The dealer ad had the characters Bigtop Tony, Dough Boyd, Sports Shoe Stu, Snotty Sarah, Twisted Tammy, and Warrior Warren on it.  At the top-center of the dealer ad, there was an enlargement of Ty Dee Knot's face.  The phrases "PLUS! A SLEW OF FANTASTIC INSERTS!", "Pop-Up Cards", "Puzzle Cards", "Action Punch Outs", and "Loco Motion Cards" were printed just below Ty Dee Knot's face.  The phrase "Now 10 stickers per pack!" was printed on the upper-left side of the dealer ad.  The phrase "Super-Size Series 110 cards to collect!" was printed on the upper-right side of the dealer ad.

In July of 2007, there was the annual San Diego Comic-Con International, which was a huge convention for fans of comic books; movie memorabilia; action figures; and just about everything related to pop-culture.  In the July 26-29 event guide for the convention, there was a brief listing of the Topps booth information on page 130 (see image above).  The information showed that Topps would be handing out trading cards and promo cards.  The All-New Series 7 promo card P1 Dough Boyd was handed out at the Topps booth.

In the September 2007 issue of the Previews catalog on page 420 (see image above), there is a description of the various items in the release.  The catalog description of the All-New Series 7 mentions there are 10 cards per pack, 110 cards in the series, flix-pix motion cards (inserted in 1 out of every 8 packs), pop-ups (inserted in 1 out of every 6 packs), puzzles (inserted in 1 out of every 6 packs), and action punch-outs (inserted in 1 out of every 4 packs).  After the basic description, there is the statement: "5 stickers per pack, 36 packs per box.", but it should actually say: "10 stickers per pack, 24 packs per box."  The All-New Series 7 character Ty Dee Knot is shown just above the text description.

In the December 2007/January 2008 issue of Non-Sport Update magazine (see image above), there is an article on page 34 under the "New & Noteworthy" section that is about the All-New Series 7.  The article discusses the larger, 110-card base set; four, 10-card insert sets; 10-card mega packs; "Wanted Poster" and "Gross I.D." card backs; pop-up cards; loco motion cards; puzzle cards; and action punch-out cards.  Jeff Zapata, the series editor, had described the All-New Series 7 as being similar to the previous All-New Series, but Topps had tried to make this release more dramatic and exciting.  On page 50, the Garbage Pail Kids All-New Series 7 (written as "Garbage Pail Kids #7 (Topps)" in the magazine) is listed under the December 2007 section.

In the February/March 2008 issue of Non-Sport Update magazine (see image above), there were a few references to Garbage Pail Kids.  There is an article on page 14 under the "Promo Cards" section that mentions Topps was giving out the promotional material for the Garbage Pail Kids All-New Series 7 at a non-sport card show in Allentown, Philadelphia.  On page 23a, the Garbage Pail Kids All-New Series 7 (written as "Garbage Pail Kids #7 (Topps)" in the magazine) is listed under the Just Released section.  On page 25, there is a full-page advertisement for the Garbage Pail Kids All-New Series 7.

In the April/May 2008 issue of Non-Sport Update magazine (see image above), there was a short article on page 30 under the "New Card Review" section on the Garbage Pail Kids All-New Series 7.  The article mentions the 10 card packs, 110 card base set, and different inserts in the packs.  The article also mentions that the collation for the release was very poor, and they did not yield a complete base card set after opening up an entire box of 24 packs.

In February 2007, the Osaka Popstar website began posting Garbage Pail Kids-related articles and information (see image above).  The All-New Series 7 cards 38a Drum Kit and 38b Tom Tom have the Osaka Popstar band members and band logo painted into the background.  One of the article discussed the All-New Series 7 cards and Garbage Pail Kids card-collecting experiences from a few of the band members.  There was a second page on the website that provided enlargements of 38a Drum Kit and 38b Tom Tom.  Information on where you could purchase the All-New Series 7 Garbage Pail Kids cards was also listed.  John Pound created the Garbage Pail Kids Osaka Popstar painting, and back in 2006 John Pound created a Wacky Packages Osaka Popstar painting that was used for a bonus card that was inserted into every "Osaka Popstar and the American Legends of Punk" CD.  The website had posted several updates about their Rock'Em O-Sock'Em Live! CD and associated merchandise.

Previous to the release of the Osaka Popstar Rock'Em O-Sock'Em Live! CD, the band had Topps give out special P2 Drum Kit promo cards (see image above) at the New York Comic Con, which ran from April 18th through April 20th 2008.  The P2 Drum Kit promo card mentions the release of the Osaka Popstar Rock'Em O-Sock'Em Live! CD on May 20th 2008.  The P1 Rock'Em O-Sock'Em promo cards came with the Osaka Popstar Rock'Em O-Sock'Em Live! CD.  The two promo cards used the same artwork as the All-New Series 7 cards 38a Drum Kit and 38b Tom Tom.

The design of the Osaka Popstar Rock'Em O-Sock'Em Live! CD had several images of the All-New Series 7 character 38a Drum Kit and 38b Tom Tom (see image above).  The front inside cover of the digipak case had a modified version of the character on it.  The modified version of the character was wearing an Osaka Popstar T-shirt.  The P1 Rock'Em O-Sock'Em promo cards came inside of the digipak case.  If you had purchased the CD from the band's merchandise sales website, you would have received a P2 Drum Kit promo card autographed by the band's lead singer, John Cafiero (see image above), and you would have also received a 4" x 6" Rock'Em O-Sock'Em Live! promotional postcard (see image above).

In February 2007, the Misfits Records website posted the same articles and information that were being posted on the Osaka Popstar website (see image above), but they were stylized to fit in with the rest of the Misfits Records website.  The website link to the enlargements of the 38a Drum Kit and 38b Tom Tom cards went to the enlargements provided on the Osaka Popstar website.  The articles were also e-mailed out to everyone who had subscribed to the Misfits Records newsletter.

In the August/September 2008 issue of Non-Sport Update magazine (see image above), there is an article on page 14 that mentions the Osaka Popstar P2 Drum Kit promo card.  There is an article on page 37 that discusses Adam White's Craze One Garbage Pail Kids-inspired sticker.

Adam White of Craze One. Clothing had artist John Pound create a Garbage Pail Kids-like painting so that the artwork could be used for a promotional sticker for Craze One. Clothing.  John Pound's artwork was used for the front of the sticker, and Adam White created the comic artwork used for the sticker backing.  Each vinyl sticker was hand numbered, and there were 1,000 stickers created for the first printing.  The stickers measure 2.5" x 3.5" and are die-cut.  The 3-5/8" x 6-1/2" envelope that the stickers came in was hand stamped with a four-color design and then signed and dated.  There was also a 2-3/4" x 4-1/4" Craze One. Clothing promotional card that was included with the sticker.  The sticker could be ordered through the Craze One. Clothing website, and orders for the stickers were first sent out at the beginning of August 2008.  Images of the front and back of the three items are shown above.  The image of the sticker was enlarged, and the images of the envelope and card were scaled down.
